Massage and the Benefits

Let us think of your body as a machine. It needs fuel to power it; it needs rest so as not to wear out the parts and with the newer models, to be recharged.  You send your car to the mechanic for maintenance and once in a while even repairs!

If you do regular “maintenance” on your automobile – it keeps it running smoothly, parts don’t wear out and the “wear and tear” is substantially minimised than if you were to run your car to the ground, don’t oil it or pump up the tyres.

Our body is a machine of sorts.  Parts seize up.  We become “tired” (not tyred!).  If our bodies are not looked after and “fixed” we man eventually need to “trade” in parts. 

Well, we can’t just go and buy a new model.  So I’m feeling that an ideal solution is to care for and regularly “tune up” the bodies we have.  

When we are feeling flexible in our body and have ease of movement, we are not in pain or discomfort. This enables our mind to be more free.  Think about it, when you are in pain or discomfort what else do you think about? Or, how much does this distract you from what you are “meant” to be doing?

It is proven that massage firstly releases knots in our muscles. These knots (myofascial pain), occur when muscles tense or tighten. This creates pain and tightness. If left untreated, can create shortening of some muscles and overstretching of others. This can lead to bad posture etc, which creates more pain!  

Massage can release the “knots” and allow the blood to flow through and the nerves to “let go” and relax.   Not to mention, relaxation for the whole of the body. 

Regular Massage also stimulates the lymphatic system, which will assist with elimination of waste from our bodies and stop stagnation of that system.  It stimulates our endocrine system, our nervous system.  S l o w I n g   u s   d o w n.  This has a flow on affect for looking after our immunity. (Because we are not stressing and wearing out all body systems!).  

How many of us are busy and stressed?  We hold ourselves tight, constricting our muscles, holding our jaws, our shoulders are up and let’s face it, our fists and bum cheeks are often clenched!

Now there are other ways to help let go of the stress ... and when our bodies have become tight, with headaches, sore shoulders, pains on our neck, back and glutes, we need to have help to alleviate these.  

Of course, this is where a massage comes in.  Sometimes you may need a really strong massage to release those extra tight muscles.  Other times, a more flowing, relaxing style is required.  If there is some emotion attached you may need some extra nurturing rather than a structural treatment.  If you are not sure what you need, chat to the therapist, we can help to discover what it is that would work best for you.

Integrity

What does it mean to be in integrity?  This has come up for me recently.  Sometimes I have found it a struggle to follow through to deliver what I have promised. Other times, I have found myself saying the “spiel” by rote without even actually thinking about what I was saying. How can we be believed when we are not being congruent with actions, beliefs and then our word.

 Are we able to achieve what we want whilst being true to the essence of who we are? 

 I’ve decided to look into this. Let’s start at the source:  What does it actually mean?

“INTEGRITY | meaning in the Cambridge English Dictionary

Oct 16, 2019 - integrity noun [U] (HONESTY) ... the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles that you refuse to change: ... Any opinions in the examples do not represent the opinion of the Cambridge Dictionary editors or of Cambridge University Press or its licensors.”

 And: 

“Integrity is the practice of being honest and showing a consistent and uncompromising adherence to strong moral and ethical principles and values. In ethics, integrity is regarded as the honesty and truthfulness or accuracy of one's actions.”  Wikipedia

For instance, in any type of work or business for a person to be in integrity has the following:  

Firstly; be skilled at your trade.  Have the correct training, have the right amount of practice to have it perfected. 

Secondly; what exactly does your client want?  Listen, ask specific questions.

Thirdly; give them what they want with a little more of than they expect.  Perhaps some information or knowledge from your own expertise that goes above and beyond their requirements to assist them with the above.  

Do you truly believe in what you are doing as a business/practice or what you are selling etc?  If you don’t believe in it yourself, people will pick that up at some level.

Fourthly, have answers ready.  Know all you can about what it is you are sharing with others. When you know rather than speculate you are coming from a place of surety.  This will come through as that you are to be trusted with your product or service and as a person.

The above can absolutely be transferred to life situations.

The challenge could be just a matter of foresight or forethought.  In that you know all that is required to be done etc ... and then you’re in a hurry or you just want to get that other thing done ... and you skip a couple of steps ... So... you (or I) have a chance to learn a valuable lesson!!! 

Let’s have a look at the Seventh Huna Philosophy - Pono:-

7. PONO – Effectiveness is the Measure of Truth – I am positive

The end doesn’t justify the means!  What is important for us to feel congruent is that how we go about achieving is from a place that truly resonates within our being.  We want to feel that when our goal is reached that we are truly happy to be there in that moment and with how we arrived there. That we are achieving with honour. The rest will follow. 

To delve deeper, we could look at what are you thinking (unconsciously if you can get there).  Where does that thinking come from? Is it your own thinking or is it a childhood belief that no longer serves you.  Change that thinking to your own.  There are so many different ways to do things?  The choice is yours.

When you come from integrity/Pono, you are able to be peaceful with what you are doing, rather than stressed or frustrated or even angry.  These emotions take a lot of energy and can put a toll on our physical bodies and emotional and mental states.

When you just do from You, everything flows – others receive and when that happens, you also receive.  Your gift is peace of mind.

Reiki

Reiki is a practice of Universal Energy Healing.  I will impart some of the history for you in a moment. 

Firstly let me explain how Reiki helps me in my day-to-day life.   Life for most of us at this time of the world my life is fairly hectic and busy.  Of course, I am leaning to support that with putting in structure and organisation (finally!).  

The areas I work and have worked in are roles where I give of myself.  I know I’m not alone in this; we all do this in our work roles and family life.  The sales roles I find are tougher as the need to be “up” is constant.  Quite often I feel extremely drained and with less focus.  I can’t sit still etc.  Now, I do realise that this is part of my make up ... yet this is very depleting to my fundamental place of being.

I am a Reiki Master.  As such I am able to (and do) attend Reiki Share Groups, where we each have the opportunity to give and receive Reiki once a week.  Also I run a Reiki Share Group once a month.  If I miss these treatments, I (and others) notice how unsettled I can become.   I feel more scattered, don’t focus, so very tired, anxious and or course, I then allow so many things to stress me out!

Reiki gives you the chance to receive for you... time and energy ... for YOU.   No need to give/ do/ be anything for anyone. You can stop.  There is no judgment, nor expectation on or from you.  Whatever you receive is yours. Often the Recipient will see colours, feel heat or coolness from the Practitioner’s hands.  Usually, they drop into mediative state where healing can occur. Thus, it can calm the endocrine system, which can help reduce anxiety, stress levels, tension etc.

Level I Reiki is about “Self Healing”.  I give myself Reiki every night to help me sleep.  Calming down, particularly after a busy day.

As a Reiki Practitioner I sense things, particular feel things.  The energy will go where the Recipient needs and often I am drawn to areas to direct the energy.  Every session is different, as every client/person has a different need at that particularly moment in time. 

The person receiving the Reiki actually draws it through the practitioner.  Being a Universal Energy it is taking from Source, the practitioner is a conduit.  Practitioners of Reiki have been attuned for the Energy to flow more directly though. 

The energy goes where it is needed.  The practitioner can direct to a physical place.  What happens is the Reiki energy moves stagnant energy and blocks.  Each Chakra has a different meaning associated with it.  As such we can ‘feel” what could be going on for the person.

The “healing” can enable you to feel physically better, emotionally relaxed and mentally calm.  Also, it can assist in giving you the peace of mind to deal with whatever you’re going through.  

If you wanted to test it out, you could always have a massage and Reiki combination. 

Basic History 

Essentially Master Usui discovered the Reiki symbols in the early 1920s. He was born in Japan in 1865. He traveled to America, Europe and China to study (theology being one) and try and find the answers to his questions on healing. Particularly the “laying of hands”. He searched for many years and his search took him to seek out the Tibetan Buddhists.He continued study, then after a 21 day fast and mediation the Reiki Symbols came to him. He assisted in healing many people and has passed this learning on to continue to be available for the well-being of all.
